This converter uses live mid-market exchange rates from ExchangeRate-API. The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the rate banks buy a currency at and the rate they sell it at. It's the rate quoted on financial news, on airport displays, and across most online converters. Think of it as the closest thing to a single "true" exchange rate at any given moment.
The rate you actually receive when sending money or exchanging cash is different. Banks and retail money-changers usually add a 2–4% spread on top of mid-market, plus a fixed transfer fee. For larger transfers, services like Wise, Revolut, or local brokerages often quote much closer to mid-market. Use this converter as your benchmark when comparing providers.
The math is direct multiplication. With amount A in currency X and the rate from X to Y:
Worked example: sending $1,000 USD to PKR at a rate of 278.50. Converted = 1,000 × 278.50 = PKR 278,500 at mid-market. Through a bank wire with a typical 3% spread plus a $25 fee, you'd actually receive closer to PKR 269,000. Through Wise or a local fintech, often PKR 277,000+. The mid-market number on this page is the benchmark to compare against.

Exchange rates also move all the time. They're driven by interest-rate differentials, inflation expectations, capital flows, and political events. A USD/GBPrate can swing 5–10% over a year, and far more for emerging-market currencies. If you're budgeting a future expense in a foreign currency, build in a buffer or hedge.
